Excellence in course design, the quality of the turf, and our commitment to environmental sustainability were key aspects that led to La Galiana Golf Resort being recognized as Best Golf Course in Spain 2019 at the World Golf Awards held in Abu DhabiAn award that celebrates the effort of the entire team to offer a top-level course.
That same commitment has been rewarded with the GEO international certification (Golf Environment Organization), which supports our responsible water management, energy efficiency, respect for the landscape and sustainable use of resources.
Furthermore, in 2016 La Galiana was awarded the IAGTO Sustainability Award in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region, for its exceptional performance in the three pillars of sustainability in golf: nature, resources and people.
Galiana Golf is a course perfectly adapted to the original topography of the land. Its design defines a spectacular 18-hole course, characterized by its high ecological value and its ability to further enhance the surrounding nature.
the slope
It's a par four, slightly uphill. With a dogleg right after the drive break, the fairway is perfectly framed by a series of bunkers on both sides, serving as a reference point on the tee. To the right, the driving range is out of bounds. A short second shot, from a stance, will require players to use one or two more clubs to attack a green, approximately 34 meters long, with several tiers.
The top
A par four, slightly uphill. The two lakes on the left can be skimmed depending on the wind and the player's shot. However, on the right, there's a wide break for the drive for more conservative players. The approach shot is determined by the pin position. The medium and short positions are straightforward; however, on the long sides, a bunker and a hazard on the left can be intimidating. Undoubtedly, a challenging hole.
The Green Lake
An amazing downhill par three with a huge green featuring two bunkers on the right to compensate for missed shots. Depending on the tee box placement, you can hit anything from a 3-wood to an 8-iron.
The green features numerous pin positions and well-defined breaks. This hole is surrounded by a sea of pine trees and boasts fantastic views of the surrounding landscape.
The snake
On the first par five of the round, the player isn't intimidated by the distance, but by the double dogleg that forces them to place their driver well if they want a good view of the green and a chance to reach it in two. This isn't the smartest approach, as the green is well protected by bunkers and hazards. The best strategy is to play short and attack its small, undulating 21-meter green with a good approach shot. It's a real strategic challenge, making it the first handicap hole of the course.
Pine
A beautiful par three with a hazard on the right side. The left side assists the player by returning the ball to the green. The hole's setting, with its leafy tree in front and a bunker at its base, makes it a great hole.
The Algarrobos
On the second par five of this round, the difficulty is not the distance but the precision in execution, both in the drive to place the ball in the fairway, and in the second shot to be able to reach the green in two easily.
However, the front and side bunkers should be taken into account, as they can pose a challenge for aggressive players. It's also possible that the green, being long (33 meters), may require more than three strokes to reach the pin.
The breath
This par four is characterized by its beautiful tee shot. Before reaching the wide break for the drive, the player must fly over a depression with bunkers to the left and right of the fairway.
The approach to a rather uneven green is level, making it difficult to see the back of the green. The player has to rely on their feel to attack the pins.
The spring
A par four with an elevated tee shot, which makes the left-hand slope seem more intimidating than it actually is. The right side helps to return the ball to the fairway. On the second shot, the player finds themselves on the mountainside with a green nestled into the bedrock. It's a wide hole, with a generous 34-meter green, and easy, provided the pin position isn't on the right side.
The Lakes
A short par four. A finish worthy of the playing characteristics offered by La Galiana golf course, even though the initial distance of the hole might not suggest it. Off the tee, you might not need to use your driver. It's important to play to the left of the fairway and leave yourself a short second shot to attack the kidney-shaped green, which offers a wide variety of pin positions. The lakes and the pressure can ruin your scorecard if you miss the green. The hole is surrounded by meticulously landscaped grounds.
The peninsula
This is the most spectacular downhill tee shot on La Galiana golf course. This par five is protected on its right side by a series of lakes and a stream running down the middle of the fairway, located approximately 300 meters from the white tees, which can be challenging for top players. A second shot to the green is possible, but given its location on a peninsula, it's not the most advisable strategy. A short shot changes everything, as the green is very forgiving despite the bunkers in front.
The waterfall
A gently uphill par four where the lakes on the right play a significant role. The impressive waterfalls and meticulous landscaping delight players who, from that side of the hole, must reach the green on this long course. Three distinct playing areas, separated by well-defined gullies, demand a precise approach shot. A highly competitive hole that leaves its mark on everyone who plays it.
The uprising
The most magnificent of the par fours on the course due to its length. Its wide tee box is oriented to the right of the hole, as emphasized by the two directional bunkers located on the left side of the fairway. The elongated green, at 39 meters, demands careful club selection. However, the game changes considerably depending on the pin position, as it is very difficult to attack when it is on the right side.
The West
A short, slightly uphill par four. Play is directly dependent on wind strength. A bunker on the left side of the fairway indicates the correct direction. The right side of the hole is unsuitable for play, as the bunker itself serves as a reminder. This is a precise tee shot that puts the player in front of a large, elegant green. The second shot isn't long, but again, the stance will require an extra club. The 34-meter green can be missed to the left. Careful club selection is recommended, as overshooting is dangerous.
The mountain
The downhill par three brings the player closer to the mountain. It's a shaded hole, so keep in mind that the green conditions may differ from the rest of the course, as may the wind, which is less intense if it blows from the east. The green is spacious, and a bunker on the left compensates for shots that go in that direction. On the right, the slope is generous and returns the ball to the green.
El Mirador
Few holes tee off from such a height; a feature that makes this the most extraordinary par four on the course. The teeing point is approximately 30 meters above the ball landing area. The wind, always a crosswind, affects the shot. Hitting the fairway is more important than getting close to the green. Furthermore, the lake, out of bounds to the right, and a stream before the green penalize players.
Teeing short and leaving an easy approach to the green is highly recommended. The steep slopes and the water feature force players to approach the pin. Ultimately, it's a hole designed for a conservative approach.
The Orange trees
A slightly uphill par three. One of the toughest greens on the course, protected by three bunkers. A complete par three in terms of distance, obstacles, and green difficulty. A real challenge.
The bunkers
This par four, with a steep dogleg to the right, demands careful strategy from the player. Two options: a short, easy tee shot to a green protected by front bunkers, or a long tee shot to a narrow fairway followed by a smooth, elegant shot to a spacious green. The tee shot is key. It's a hole where the seven bunkers are the main attraction.
The Entrepines
A par five, handicap two. The course is set in the bedrock of the estate, with the woods bordering the fairway. It features a double dogleg: first to the right, then to the left before the green. One hole, with a bunker at the far end, marks the reference point for aiming off the tee. There are two options: the first is to risk reaching a narrow green well-protected by bunkers—recommended only for top players—or to play short on a perfectly positioned green, approximately 34 meters long, allowing for a comfortable approach shot to the pin. The natural setting of the hole is unparalleled.
